At about 5:30 pm on June 27 deputies were responding to an unrelated call in Adger. A woman walking along the road flagged them down and told them that she had seen an injured dog lying in a ditch around the corner. The deputies checked, but did not see the dog.
After completing the call they returned to the area to look for the dog and found it in a ditch along John’s Road. It had a chain tightly wrapped around its neck that the skin had grown around causing a severe cut to the dog’s neck. The dog was also severely dehydrated. The deputies gave the dog water and contacted Greater Birmingham Humane Society Animal Care and Control. They came to the scene and took custody of the dog.
The dog is a brown and white male Boxer. He is recovering at the animal control facility and is expected to survive.
The Sheriff’s Office animal cruelty investigator is seeking to identify the owner of the dog. Anyone with information about the owner or the dog is asked to contact the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office at 205-325-1450.
