The Property Crimes Unit is responsible for investigating all property crimes committed against the citizens of Jefferson County and assisting other local agencies in their investigations. This unit consists of detectives assigned to the Centerpoint, Forestdale and Cahaba Heights substations. The property detectives investigate burglaries, auto thefts, theft of personal property, commercial theft and other major felony property crimes. In addition, these detectives execute search warrants against any known major fencing operations, recover stolen property that is returned to the victims, and coordinate investigation with mulitple jurisdictions across the Southeast. The Property Crimes Unit maintains a case clearance rate that exceeds the national average.
